Efficient shoot organogenesis of begonia (Begonia rex Putz.) induced by thidiazuron
نویسنده
چکیده
The effects o f thidiazuron (TDZ) on adventitious shoot bud formation from leaf and peti ole explants excised from in-vitro-grown plantlets o f a begonia were tested by a two-step procedure: a short exposure (5 to 120 min) to 40 pM TDZ in liquid MS medium followed by culture on agar-solidified MS medium without growth regulators. Exposure of explains for five min to TDZ induced bud formation, but the number o f buds was in creased with prolonged exposure. Sixty min exposure to TDZ resulted in the highest mean number o f regenerated shoots (24/leaf disc: 44/petiole segment after five weeks o f cul ture). Shoots generated after two weeks in culture without, or with a small amount of, cal lus. During the third and fourth week in culture shoots developed small roots, and from the mother explant separated shoots elongated and further developed. The sucrose concentra tion in the basal expression medium influenced the efficiency of shoot organogenesis. The frequency of shoot formation tended to increase when the medium was supplemented with 2% sucrose instead with 3%.

Peanut Shells Effect as a Peat Substitute in Potting Media on Growth and Nutrition of Begonia rex
Due to the environmental problems caused by the accumulation of significant amounts of waste from peanut cultivation, it seems necessary to provide a solution for the reuse of this organic waste. Therefore, this experiment was conducted to investigate the possibility of using compost of peanut shells in potting Begonia rex. This research was based on randomized complete block desi...
متن کاملAlginate Encapsulation of Begonia Microshoots for Short-Term Storage and Distribution
Synthetic seeds were formed from shoot tips of two in vitro grown Begonia cultivars using 3% sodium alginate in Murashige and Skoog medium (MS) salt solution as the gel matrix and 100 mM calcium chloride for complexation. Synthetic seed formation was achieved by releasing the sodium alginate/explant combination into 100 mM calcium chloride (CaCl₂ ·H₂O) solution for 30 or 45 min. Both control an...

An efficient protocol was developed for micro-propagation of Indian papaya (Carica papaya L.) var. Co7. Shoot bud induction occurred on culturing epicotyl segments in MS (Murashige and Skoog, 1962) medium, followed by transfer onto shoot multiplication, elongation and rooting media. Adventitious buds were induced on MS medium supplemented with varying concentration of thidiazuron (TDZ: 0.5-10 μ...

The gesneriaceous perennial plant, Lysionotus serratus, has been used in traditional Chinese medicine. It also has a great development potential as an ornamental plant with its attractive foliage and beautiful flowers. An efficient propagation and regeneration system via direct shoot organogenesis from leaf explant was established in this study. High active cytokinin (6-benzyladenine (BA) or th...

Semperflorens begonia (Begonia semperflorens) is an ornamental house-plant which for its optimal growth and development needs a proper nutrition. Currently, cyanobacteria are sought after by plant growers as a growth bio-stimulant. Spirulina (Spirulina platensis) is an important cyanobacterium which has a vast range of nutritional organic and inorganic substances. This green-blue algae could be...
